Assistive technology (AT) can help disabled people to perform functions that they couldn’t otherwise do, such as electric wheelchairs, voice recognition on their computer for mobility and communicating. Speech therapists can support children with cerebral palsy for example or other conditions that cause difficulty with speech. Health professionals will help children with cystic fibrosis. Additional learning support at school could help a child with autism or dyslexia. Portage workers help support the family and child when they may have developmental or learning difficulties, physical disabilities or other Special Educational Needs.
